Live Clean Baby Review {Green Family Sponsor Spotlight}

I’ve been on the lookout for new baby bath products that are safer for baby and more eco-friendly than the “traditional” brands which is why I was excited to try out Live Clean Baby’s line of baby care products. I was especially glad to hear that they are available at my local Walgreens and at walgreens.com for a reasonable $7.99 each (walgreens.com sells the larger 25 oz. size products for $14.99 each). Many of the comparable eco-friendly products I’ve seen in stores have a much higher price.

We got to sample the Moisturizing Baby Bath, Tearless Shampoo and Wash, Non-Petroleum Jelly, Moisturizing Bar Soap, and Moisturizing Baby Lotion. One of the first things I notice when I try out new baby products is the scent (or lack thereof). Live Clean’s products have a very clean soapy scent. I love smelling my little guy’s hair after using the shampoo- it smells so fresh and clean! One of his aunties even commented that he smelled “so good” one day after he had taken a bath with Live Clean products.

Angelo absolutely loves the bubble bath. He’s pretty crazy about anything with bubbles and this bubble bath really delivered in the bubble department. I practically had to pry him out of the tub the first time we tried it out. It really makes bath time much more enjoyable when he actually wants to take one. He had recently decided he didn’t like baths anymore, but changed his mind once bubbles were on the table.

Live Clean Baby’s lotion is thicker than typical baby lotions (though not to body butter thick) and rubs in easily. Angelo kept wanting some for his pruney hands after his bubble baths. He also was rather intrigued by the duck emblem on the bottle. He’s very into “duckies” right now, and kept wanting to hold the lotion bottle while having me sing the “rubber ducky” song.

I haven’t used petroleum jelly with Angelo yet and haven’t used it myself for ages. I rubbed some of Live Clean’s Non-Petroleum Jelly onto the back of my hand and found it left a thin film to protect my skin but wasn’t greasy feeling like I remember vaseline being when I was a kid. I am unable to use it with my cloth diapers which is why I haven’t tried it before, but if you need some skin protection and you use disposables this might work well. They also have a Diaper Ointment available for those that use disposables.

I was curious to try the bar soap as I have only used liquid soap and shampoo products so far with Angelo. The bar soap washed off easily and left Angelo literally squeaky clean. It was a little difficult to build up much of a lather, and might work better if you rub the washcloth on the wet bar then apply to baby. If you like a lot of lather then you might not like the bar soap as much as the Tearless Shampoo and Wash. I thought it worked just fine, and am thinking one bar will last us quite a while (you get three in a package).

I was rather impressed by how eco-friendly Live Clean Baby products really are. They are formulated using only natural plant-based ingredients, are vegan, and cruelty free. Even the packaging was designed with the environment in mind using plastics that are easier to recycle, shipping cartons made from recycled materials, and safe inks. They won The National Parenting Center’s 2012 Seal of Approval and have also been named a 2012 National Parenting Publications Awards (NAPPA) Honors Winner.

From their press-release:

“Sustainable…renewable… replenishable,” Live Clean Baby is based on the premise that all products are both environmentally responsible and highly efficacious. Formulated without many of the commonly used chemicals that are damaging to the environment and, some believe, our well-being, Live Clean is free of Sodium Lauryl Sulfate (SLS), a common chemical surfactant used in most shampoos, as well as Diethanolamine (DEA), a common ingredient used for rich lather and viscosity building. Live Clean is also free of parabens (preservatives used to extend the shelf life of personal care products) and other harsh preservatives, as well as phthalates (chemicals commonly used to make fragrances last longer).

We’ve really enjoyed using the Live Clean Baby line of products, and I’m fairly certain I’ll be heading to Walgreens to purchase some more of their bubble bath in the very near future. I love that these products work great, are safe for baby, are eco-friendly, and affordable.
