Kid Basix Safe Sippy 2 Review {Sponsor Spotlight}

I really love to feature products that I already know are great. It’s fun being able to share some of my favorite products for surviving the first year or so of motherhood. I previously got to review the Safe Sippy 2 from Kid Basix over at Mama Chocolate. The Safe Sippy 2 has worked so well for us that I decided to contact Kid Basix to see if they would like to sponsor the upcoming Just for Baby Event. Happily they agreed, and I am getting to do a second review of the Safe Sippy 2 and giving away one Kid Basix bottle/cup of winner’s choice for the event! Now, on to the review!

We’ve tried several (and I mean several) sippy cups over the past year or so trying to find one that Angelo likes enough to drink faithfully out of and that doesn’t allow massive water spillage when he forgets to put it upright or drops it off the highchair. I’ve bought cups with straws, without straws, with soft spouts, with hard spouts, cheap cups, and more expensive cups. I have to say, my favorite one by far is the Safe Sippy 2 by Kid Basix. Our green Safe Sippy 2 has been in use around 6 months, and I compared it to our brand new orange one. They’re both exactly the same except the green one has a few dings in the bottom from Angelo dropping it when the protective TPR sleeve was off. You can’t tell they’re even there when the sleeve is on. Yep, all parts of the cup are still working just fine (except the dust cap which got a bit too close to the stove and melted a bit).

The Safe Sippy 2 is a stainless steel cup with a BPA free solid plastic spout and TPR sleeve. It comes with accessories to perform as either a “regular” sippy or as a straw sippy (Angelo by far, prefers straw sippy cups). Also included are a dust cap, removable handles (which we remove because Angelo doesn’t need them), and a travel plug. It comes in 6 fun colors.

We use the Safe Sippy 2 pretty much daily, and it has held up great! I have been rather impressed with how well the straw has held up- we’re still using the original one that came with the cup. With the other straw sippy cups we’ve tried, the straw has worn out or the spout has stopped functioning correctly. One cup didn’t offer replacements (you had to buy a whole new cup which seemed wasteful), and the other cup costs around $4 for just the spout (which wore out after about 2 months)! I like that the Safe Sippy spout is solid instead of soft. Little teething mouths love to chew. With the soft spouts when they chew it ruins the spout. With the solid spout there’s no problem. The spout is also short enough that if the little guy did happen to fall with it in his mouth there wouldn’t be any impaling what-not happening.

I don’t typically use the travel plug although I thought it was a great idea when I first saw it. It’s just too inconvenient to unplug and then re-plug in the straw and straw adapter. There’s so little spillage that happens in the diaper bag with the Safe Sippy 2 that it’s just not worth the time and effort to use it. While this cup isn’t Spill Proof, it typically only leaks out the small amount of water that sometimes gets left in the straw after your child has finished sucking. If they don’t suck all the water out of the straw, then the leftovers will dribble out if the cup is turned upside down. Angelo used to shake it upside down and very little liquid came out- much less than some other cups we’ve had. If you use the cup as a regular sippy it does have a no-spill valve. It’s only when you use it in the straw mode that it’s not completely spill-proof.

I do really like the dust cap for when we’re out of the house. It protects the spout from nasty germs that might be floating around the diaper bag.

We love the Safe Sippy 2, and I can highly recommend it for your little one. The only thing I would change is adding even more fun colors!

The Safe Sippy 2 is priced at $14.95 (I have seen it on sale at Amazon) which may seem a bit pricey compared to some of the cheap plastic cups at the department store. Consider this: the Safe Sippy is made from stainless steel not plastic (which is safer for your little one), it can be a straw and regular sippy so you can use it longer, it’s made to last so you wont be needing to buy replacement cups and parts every few months, and if you misplace a part you can purchase replacement parts for a very reasonable price (under $5 for a package with two straws, a travel plug, a straw adapter, and a dust cap). With how much I’ve spent trying out other cups, I would have save money purchasing a Safe Sippy 2 in the first place.

Kid Basix has an array of drinkware for your newborn on up to adults including the Safe Starter (bottle, in 2 sizes), Safe Sippy, Safe Sippy 2, and Safe Sporter (in 2 sizes). All made of stainless steel with BPA free spouts/nipples.

About Kid Basix from their website:

“Making kids’ lives better.” This was the simple idea that drove the development of our first product, and it is the idea that will drive the products yet to come.

Simple ideas can make for ambitious goals. Our founder created The Safe Sippy™ cup because he knows how dangerous plastics are, and it drove him crazy that he was giving his two year old son water every morning in a cup made from toxic chemicals.

It is our goal that the future products from Kid Basix have the same simple singleness of purpose: Making kids’ live better.
