Easy Hearty Sausage Gravy

In the fall I always seem to start craving hearty “home style” meals. One of our family favorites is Sausage Gravy (you can also use hamburger). I typically make homemade biscuits, rice, or mashed potatoes to drape this gravy over. It isn’t “from scratch”, but it’s way better than the packet gravy from the store.

Easy Hearty Sausage Gravy

Ingredients

1 can of cream of mushroom soup

2/3 cup of milk (or water)

1/2 lb of mild ground sausage or hamburger

1/2 onion, chopped

2 cloves of garlic, minced

2-3 mushrooms chopped (if you like extra mushroom pieces)

salt and pepper to taste

1/4 cup sour cream

I also like to add in random chopped/grated veggies to make it healthier

1. Brown sausage with onions and garlic

2. Add mushrooms and veggies (if using) and cook for 1-2 minutes on med heat

3. Add cream of mushroom soup and 2/3 of the soup can of milk (you can use water, but I prefer milk) and bring to boil. Turn down heat, cover, and simmer 10-20 minutes.

4. Remove from heat. Add salt and pepper to taste and sour cream.

Serve over rice, mashed potatoes, or biscuits.

Enjoy!
